About me

Hello and welcome to 'There's something about macarons'!

My first encounter with macarons was about 3 years ago, my then boyfriend (now husband) bought me some from the Ladurée at the Royal Exchange and they were amazing - pretty jewels in their varying colours and absolutely delicious. Since first trying macarons I was determined to master them, and although I was up to the challenge, my student house oven certainly was not...Fast forward around 2 years and I had my own lovely house with my then fiancé, with my dream kitchen and a whopping great oven. Armed with my spatula, egg whites and stainless steel bowl, and with the (vast) macaron blogashere as my guide, I set to work. I did not succeed at my first attempt, nor 10th attempt…in the end it’s definitely best not to count the number of failed macaron attempts. Failing was frustrating but it only spurred me on! By this time I’m sure my fiancé was rather worried about his impending marriage to a macaron-obsessed mad woman!

In the end, with some tweaks to some recipes and complete re-hauling of others, I am pleased to say that I can now make a very respectable macaron. I’ve had several people ask me for my recipe and I am more than happy to share it.

Through this blog I will provide my recipes for macarons – including both French and Italian meringue methods and I hope you will have as much success with them as I have had!
